NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Former President Jimmy Carter has agreed to correct future editions of his recently released book, Our Endangered Values, after James A. Smith Sr., executive editor of the Florida Baptist Witness newspaper, challenged his allegation about an Oval Office exchange with Adrian Rogers.

I have been quite disturbed by your recent editorial concerning my book, Our Endangered Values [Dec. 8].

TITUSVILLE (FBW)-Years ago three central Florida pastors left the demands of their churches to go fishing together. At a lake between Mims and Sanford, they enjoyed fishing and talking so much that they lost track of time. They headed home after dark pulling a boat with no lights.

As far as Jimmy Carter is concerned, Adrian Rogers and Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini are like-minded fanatics and, although each claims a different brand of the dreaded fundamentalism that is sweeping our world, both are equally as dangerous. This is the inescapable of conclusion of any reasonable person who has read Carter’s new book, Our Endangered Values: America’s Moral Crisis.

It was one of those awkward hallway moments when a great leader squints at your name tag and tries to place you. Adrian and Joyce Rogers paused outside of the elevators on a high floor at a hotel in New Orleans.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (BP/FBW)–Adrian Rogers, the longtime pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in suburban Memphis and one of the fathers of the grassroots movement that brought the Southern Baptist Convention back to its biblical, historical roots, died Nov. 15. He was 74.

On Nov. 15 we grieved over the death of Adrian Rogers. But we do not grieve for him; we grieve for ourselves. We will greatly miss him. We celebrate his coronation into the very presence of the Lord as he is now absent from the body and present with the Lord.

MEMPHIS (FBW)-Adrian Rogers, 74, pastor emeritus of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tenn., and a former president of Southern Baptist Convention passed away in the early hours of Nov. 15 after battling cancer and double-pneumonia. He was born Sept. 12, 1931 in West Palm Beach.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (BP)–Former Southern Baptist Convention President Adrian Rogers was on a ventilator and his health appeared to be "declining" Sunday night as he battled double pneumonia, a statement on his ministry’s website said. As of Monday morning, his condition was "unchanged," another statement said.

NAPLES (FBW) – Living now in what he calls the “transfer zone” in which he is seeking to pass along to a new generation of pastors what God has taught him in half a century of ministry, Adrian Rogers told more than 170 pastors and church staff at First Baptist Church of Naples Oct. 7, “I cannot overemphasize the importance of preaching.”

Smith Sr. The Oct. 6, hour-long interview covered a wide array of topics with Rogers, 74, who retired as pastor of the historic Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tenn. earlier this year.
