Space Coast walk to fund Bible, film give-aways

Members of Brevard Baptist Association churches will gather March 7 for the annual Space Coast Seafarers’ “Walk for Bibles.” The event will raise funds to buy Bibles, Gospel tracts and Jesus films to be given to the thousands of seafarers who visit Port Canaveral.

Walkers will seek donations from sponsors for the three and one-half mile walk around the port. Most sponsors choose to give amounts in multiples of ten, since $10 is the average cost of a Bible in a language other than English, according to Jean Cole of the Seafarers’ ministry.

Organizers expect dozens of walkers; 80 participated in the 2008 walk that raised $18,000. The route for the walk, which Cole said also functions as a prayer walk, begins at 8 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Cape Canaveral and winds around the south port, passing several gambling ships. During the walk, pray-ers will pray for seafarers and their families, for the security of the port, for Port Authority officers and shipping agents, and for the Seafarers’ Ministry, according to an event prayer list.
