D.C. bus signs part of humanists’ ‘Godless Holiday Campaign’

ORLANDO (FBW)–The American Humanist Association (AHA), in an effort to publicly question the existence of God, has purchased advertising space on Washington, D.C., buses. Signs on the sides, tailgates and interiors of the buses read “Why believe in God? Just be good for goodness sake.” The AHA Godless Holiday Campaign will run through December.

According to a press release from Liberty Counsel in Orlando, “the war against Christmas has obviously begun” in the U.S., as it has in other nations. The secularization of Christmas in the former Soviet Union began when St. Nicholas was replaced with Grandfather Frost, and Christmas trees were renamed New Year’s trees. Similarly, a Vietnam province forbade the singing of “Silent Night,” and Cuba banned the holiday for almost 30 years.

On its website, www.lc.org, Liberty Counsel offers a Help Save Christmas packet that includes material for governmental officials, teachers, parents, students, private businesses, employees and others to educate them of their legal privilege to celebrate Christmas.

Matthew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel said, “It is the ultimate Grinch to suggest there is no God during a holiday where millions of people around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ… Christmas is a time of joy and hope, not a time for hate. Why believe in God? Because Santa is not the only one coming to town.”
