Floridians serve, elected to SBC posts

INDIANAPOLIS (BP)—Two Floridians served on the SBC’s Committee on Committees which assembled in Indianapolis, Ind., just prior to the June 10-11 annual meeting. Floridians also served on the Tellers Committee, while others were elected to various SBC entities’ governing boards.

Marvin Pittman, layperson, First Baptist Church, Bartow, and Willie Rice, pastor, Calvary Baptist Church and president of the Florida Baptist State Convention served on the 70-member Committee on Committees. Wesley Green, pastor, Christway Baptist Church, Miramar, and Randy Huckabee, pastor, First Baptist Church, Okeechobee served on the tellers committee.

Other Florida Baptists were nominated by the 2007 SBC Committee on Nominations and elected by the messengers to the annual meeting June 10-11 in Indianapolis.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Elected for term to expire in 2012 is Tom Biles, director of missions and member of Idlewild Baptist Church, Tampa, replacing Keith Russell, pastor, Westside Baptist Church, Jacksonville, who declined to serve a second term. Elected for second term is Joseph D. (Jody) Hudgins, Sarasota.

INTERNATIONAL MISSION BOARD

Elected with term to expire in 2012, replacing member ineligible for re-election is H. Marvin Pittman, layperson and member of First Baptist Church, Bartow, replacing John C. Russell, Brandon. Elected for second term is Richard A. Powell, pastor, McGregor Baptist Church, Fort Myers.

SOUTHWESTERN SEMINARY

Elected for second term is F. Anthony George, pastor, Aloma Baptist Church, Winter Park.

SOUTHEASTERN SEMINARY

Elected for second term is Dwayne E. Mercer, pastor, First Baptist Church, Oviedo.
