Floridians play prime roles in National Day of Prayer celebrations

Floridian Tony Dungy is promoting the observance of National Day of Prayer through a video-taped testimony on the event’s website, www.ndptf.org. Dungee, head coach of the world champion Indianapolis Colts and a member of Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz, said his football wins or losses do not define who he is, because “for every high in life, there will always be a low.”

Saying God “delights in our prayers,” Dungy touts prayer as a “comfort when things are difficult and a joy when they’re not.”

“I find my strength in prayer,” he said. “My heart has been changed by prayer. If it can change one heart, it can the heart of a nation.”

One-time Floridian Charles Billingsley, a former member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, will sing in the national observance of National Day of Prayer in Washington, D.C. Billingsley is worship leader at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va. The May 1 service will be broadcast live through GOD TV, channel 365 on Direct TV, and through the National Day of Prayer website noon-3 p.m.

Also participating in the national observance will be James and Shirley Dobson, National Day of Prayer chairman; honorary chairman Ravi Zacharias; Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; Judge Janice Rogers Brown; Chaplain Barry Black; and Rep. Mike McIntyre.

Day of Prayer observances throughout Florida are listed on the event website, www.ndptf.org.
