SUBJECT SCIENCE STANDARDS

Old-earth anyone?

I just want people to know that with all the talk about evolution vs. creation and the Intelligent Design movement, there is an alternative.

It is old-earth creationism (dayage). I follow an organization called Reasons To Believe. They do not believe in macroevolution, but do hold to the standard age for the earth and universe (remember the Bible never states the age of either). They do hold that Genesis 1-11 is literal history, but that (yom) of Genesis 1 should be understood as long periods, not 24-hour periods.

Every Tuesday they have a live two-hour webcast in which the scholars dicuss the latest scientific discoveries and how they relate to the Bible. During the webcasts people can call in (toll free) with their science and Bible questions. They also have a hotline that is open every night, so you can ask questions of their volunteer apologists.

I was 23 years old before I had heard of anything other than evolution or young-earth creationism. What a relief it was to find out that science and the Bible can go together.

Remember that Christian faith is based on evidence, it is not blind like that of Mormonism and other religions. Students and parents should take advantage of this ministry. They will graciously answer questions from both skeptics and believers.
