Military mom pens book for fellow familiesPublished August 23, 2007
JACKSONVILLE (FBW)—Former Floridian Lucy Cain has authored a book intended to encourage military personnel and their families. Her book, Secure the Fort (and Remain Under God), A Military Mother's Message to America, was recently released by xlibris publishers Cain began writing the 295-page work when her son, Michael, joined the Army Reserves in 2005. He now is in the second year of an eight-year military commitment. She and her family are members of New Hope Baptist Church in Versailles, Ky., where they reside. Cain describes Florida as "home," where she "attended and was saved" at Palm View Baptist Church in Palmetto. She maintains regular contact with Pastor Larry Pritchett and members of the church's youth group of the mid-70's, several of whom are church leaders, she told Florida Baptist Witness. "How many churches keep several members of an entire youth group who are now leaders in the church?" she asked.
She now hopes to encourage those of another generation through her writing. "We need this nation to remain 'under God.' We need him at the helm of every vessel and standing guard at every gate," she wrote in a recent press release. More than 35 authors contributed to the work, offering original poetry, letters from the front and stories of faith in the field. Cain and the other writers hope to bring military personnel and their families "closer to the One who can meet their every need."
