Eighteen Floridians elected, appointed to SBC posts

GREENSBORO, N.C. (BP) — Two Floridians were appointed by Southern Baptist Con­ven­tion President Bobby Welch to serve on the SBC’s Committee on Committees which assembled in Greensboro, N.C., just prior to the SBC’s June 13-14 annual meeting.

John Cross, pastor of South Biscayne Bap­tist Church in North Port and Kellie Kitchings, a mem­ber of First Baptist Church in Eustis served on the 70-member committee.

Guy Sanders from First Baptist Church in New Port Richey, appointed last year, served as Chairman of the Committee on Nominations for 2005-2006. Ginny Whitten from Idlewild Baptist Church in Tampa also served on that committee.

Welch, pastor of First Baptist Church in Day­tona Beach, also appointed Deb Linares, member of First Baptist Church in Eustis and Pedro Linares, associate pastor of First Baptist Church in Eustis to the Credentials Committee.

Michael Orr, pastor of First Baptist Church, Chipley; Michael Wiggins, pastor of Pine Ter­race Baptist Church, Milton; Ron Lentine, pastor of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, Pensacola; and Randy Huckabee, pastor of First Baptist Church, Okeechobee were named to the Tellers Committee. Welch also added Paul Fries, director of missions for the Holmes County Baptist Association, to the Tellers Committee in Greensboro.

Other Florida Baptists nominated by the 2005 SBC Committee on Nominations and elected by the messengers to the annual meeting June 13-14 in Greensboro were:

Executive Committee:

Elected for second term was Thomas M. Vinson, Winter Park.

International Mission Board:

Elected for term to expire in 2008 was Richard Powell, pastor, McGregor Baptist Church in Fort Myers, re­plac­ing Gerald B. Reeves, Niceville, who resigned. Elected for second term was Gary L. Craw­ford, pastor, Westside Baptist Church, Gainesville.

North American Mission Board:

Robert V. Roberts, DOM and mem­ber of Scott Lake Baptist Church, Lake­land, was elected for term to expire in 2009 and replaced Charles L. Roesel, recently retired pastor of First Baptist Church in Leesburg. Elected for a second term was Ted H. Traylor, pastor, Olive Baptist Church, Pensacola.

LifeWay Christian Resources:

Replacing members ineligible for re-election included Jerry T. Webb, pastor, Flomich Avenue Baptist Church, Holly Hill, replacing Bob R. Bum­garner, Jacksonville.

The Committee on Committees announced the 2006-2007 Committee on Nominations included two Floridians: Bruce Moore, Cross Pointe Baptist, Wesley Chapel and Susan Caddell, First Baptist, Eustis.
