LAKELAND (FBC)—While adults attended the Monday evening session of the March 6-7 State Evangelism Conference, 200 teenagers gathered at Lakeland’s Lakeside Baptist Church where 12 students accepted Christ during “Night Thing,” the youth component of the two-day evangelism event.
Keynote speaker Jeff Hessinger, director of the Convention’s Personal Evangelism Department, addressed the topic of creation and challenged students to consider a personal relationship with God. “Without God in your life you would be empty and incomplete,” Hessinger said adding that God values each of their lives.
After sharing his personal testimony and a presentation of the Gospel, Hessinger led the young people through the sinners' prayer. At the event’s conclusion, a dozen participants indicated they had prayed to receive Christ and publicly displayed their commitment before their peers. Those who made decisions were immediately connected with leaders from one of the 13 churches represented for discipleship.
During “Night Thing” the band Beacon12 led worship and gave a free concert. The event concluded with the testimonies of Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) students from across the state and a drawing that featured giveaways that included a $100 prize and an iPod digital music player.
