SBC’s Conference of the Blind slates reorganizational meetingPublished May 26, 2005
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)The Southern Baptist Conference of the Blind will hold a reorganizational meeting June 18-19 in Nashville, Tenn. Two sessions are planned: at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday; the location is yet to be determined. Charles Couey, who was elected as president of the conference during their inaugural meeting at the 1990 SBC annual meeting in New Orleans, is serving as the planning director of this years meeting. Couey served as the consultant on ministries with the blind for the Tennessee Baptist Convention from 1983-2004. He also served as director of ministries with the blind at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Nashville, Tenn., February 1986-98. During the Saturday evening session, Couey will discuss the history of the SBCs relationship with the blind. He also will present the SBCBs original purpose statement adopted at its original meeting as a possible basis for developing a set of goals for the future. Sunday morning, Paul Ferrara, a doctoral student at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., will speak on the biblical basis for ministry with the blind, followed by the election of officers and the appointment of a constitution committee.
