Florida Baptist pastors and laymen nominated, appointed to SBC posts

 

NASHVILLE (FBW)–Several Florida pastors and laymen are among the nominees slated for re-election and election to various SBC boards and commissions during the Southern Baptist Convention June 21-22 in Nashville, Tenn. The nominations were made by the 2005 Committee on Nominations.

SBC president Bobby Welch also appointed four Floridians to two committees.

Darrell P. Orman, pastor of First Baptist Church, Stuart, is nominated for a second term on the 83-member Executive Committee; Harold D. Vick, a layman and member of First Baptist Church, West Palm Beach, is nominated for a second term on the board of GuideStone Financial Services. Ken Whitten, pastor of Idlewild Baptist Church in Tampa, is nominated for a second term on the International Mission Board; and Charles L. Roesel, pastor of First Baptist Church, Leesburg, is nominated to serve a second term on the North American Mission Board.

Nominated for a second term on the board of LifeWay Christian Resources is Randy Knepper, a layman and member of Olive Baptist Church, Pensacola. Michael Landry, pastor of Sarasota Baptist Church, is nominated for a second term on the board of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City. Mo.

Two Floridians will begin first terms on commissions and boards. Their terms will expire in 2009. Doug Luckett, layman and member of Sarasota Baptist Church, is nominated to serve on the board of LifeWay Christian Resources, replacing Skip Haymans, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, Eustis. Glen E. Owens, assistant executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention and a member of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, is nominated to serve on the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission. He will replace Bruce Crawford, formerly of Clearwater.

Bobby Welch, pastor of Daytona Beach First Baptist Church and SBC president, appointed representatives from each of the 35 state or regional conventions to serve on the Committee on Committees and Tellers Committee. Two Floridians will serve on each committee.

Jim Brown, layman and member of First Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, and Travis Hudson, pastor of Hardeetown Baptist Church, will serve on the Committee on Committees. Dan Alley, layman and member of First Baptist Church, Stuart, and Steve Smartt, pastor of Moultrie Baptist Church, St. Augustine, will serve on the Tellers Committee.
