Retreat center built on muddy 20-year dream

First Baptist Church, St. George Island, recently dedicated the St. George Island Christian Retreat Center, located 75 miles southwest of Tallahassee. The facility, located on the site of the original church building, includes a conference center attached to the original church and eight cabins. Each cabin has two bathrooms, air-conditioning, and sleeps eight. In 2003, as the congregation was praying for guidance on the future of its bay front property, a mud-covered 20-year-old concept painting of a retreat center was found in the church basement. The discovery confirmed the church’s ministry plans for the property. Volunteers assisted in the construction of the retreat center, which is now debt-free.
