SBACS recognizes high school seniors

WINDEMERE (FBW)–One Florida Christian school student has been selected as a regional scholarship winner and 10 were chosen as finalists from a field of 46 finalists from eight states in the B.R. Chamberlain Foundation Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools (SBACS) Outstanding Scholars Award Program for 2005, according to a press release.

Regional scholarship winner for Florida is Tyler McClintock from Calvary Christian High School in Clearwater. Outstanding scholar finalists from Florida are: Jennifer Adzima, Amanda Bugel, Scott Jordan, Jaime Sherman and Gene Steffanetta, Calvary Christian High School, Clearwater; Rachael Walls, Foundation Academy, Winter Garden; Robert Adams and Amanda Wren, Merrit Island Christian School, Merrit Island; Audra Reynolds, Peniel Baptist Academy, Palatka; Lindsey Beaulieu, The First Academy, Orlando.

Qualifiers are selected to national, regional and finalist levels by meeting stringent academic or musicianship criteria, and are also evaluated on character and service. Each year, three high school seniors are selected from the pool of qualified applicants to receive a $1000 college tuition scholarship for national-level scholars and musicians. Four students are selected as regional Outstanding Scholars, each earning a $500 scholarship. All applicants must score a minimum of 1250 SAT/28 ACT, have an overall 3.5 GPA and have evidenced leadership, service and Christian character to be considered for the Outstanding Scholars Program. Aspiring musicians are evaluated on instrumental or vocal music performance, GPA, Christian character, student activities, church activities, and leadership.

This is the third year that the scholarships have been funded by the B.R. Chamberlain Foundation for Public Enrichment, a public foundation in Orlando.

“Through their generous commitment, the B.R. Chamberlain Foundation has provided scholarship funding for SBACS member school students throughout the United States and abroad to receive help with the cost of higher education. Our hope is that other individuals and foundations will be encouraged to contribute to this fund as well,” said SBACS Executive Director Ed Gamble.
