Transitional pastors’ training features SBC leadersPublished November 30, 1999
JACKSONVILLE (FBC)Three Southern Baptist denominational leaders with 156 years combined ministry experience will lead a conference for transitional pastors March 21-24 at Lake Yale Conference Center. Bill Hogue, Ernest Moseley and Roy Edgemon will lead the five-day Transitional Pastor Training, jointly sponsored by LifeWay Christian Resources and Florida Baptists Pastor/Church Staff Relations Department. We are grateful to have a faculty with this wealth of wisdom, knowledge and experience, said Bob Mounts, director of the Church/Pastor Staff Department. Hogue, former Home Mission Board (HMB), SBC vice president of evangelism and retired executive director of the California Southern Baptist Convention, is currently serving as a transitional pastor in Stephenville, Texas. Moseley, retired vice president of the Executive Committee, SBC, previously served as LifeWays Pastoral Ministry director and executive director for the Illinois Baptist State Association. An author of 17 books, Edgemon has served as a pastor, foreign missionary in Okinawa, HMB evangelism associate and for 24 years as LifeWays discipleship director. The meeting is designed to help train individuals as transitional interim pastors to aid congregations experiencing pastoral vacancy. There are times when churches need a qualified and trained interim pastor, explained Mounts. If both the church and the interim understand how this process is to function, the church can make great strides during the interim period and be better prepared to receive the new full time pastor when he arrives on the field. The event is aimed at individuals not currently serving as full-time pastors, but who have years of pastoral experience, a proven track record and are able to give several days a week to the ministry. Persons wanting to attend the conference must complete an application from LifeWay before being accepted into the program. The conference cost is $300. Lodging at Lake Yale is additional: $119 per person double occupancy; $179 single occupancy; and $61 for commuters. For more information and to apply, contact the Pastor/Church Staff Relations Department, 800-226-8584, ext. 3072 or by e-mail: epope@flbaptist.org. |
