March for Jesus Jan. 29 in JAX

 

JACKSONVILLE (FBW)–The “Super March for Jesus,” a free celebration open to the public, kicks off Jan. 29 at 11 a.m.

Participants should gather at 10:15 behind the downtown courthouse on the St. John’s River (Coastline Drive). The March begins along Bay Street and proceeds to outside Jacksonville’s Alltel Stadium.

“The ‘Super’ March for Jesus calls Christians of all denominations to unite and take the joy of knowing Jesus beyond the church walls and into the streets with prayer and praise,” said march coordinator Jenny Howard in a news release. A script for singing lyrics and prayers to be broadcast over mobile sound systems will be available to marchers for $1. The march concludes with a short prayer rally led by local pastors. Other Super Bowl related events open to public participation are:
— A food distribution to 20,000 Jacksonville area people in Brentwood Park by the Convoy of Hope. The convoy block party will be televised by the Inspiration Network. For more information, call Becky Wallace at 904-781-9393 or e-mail rebeccawallace88@yahoo.com.

— A national, youth-led “Souper Bowl of Caring” hunger fund-raiser Feb. 6, the day of the Super Bowl. Each participating youth group will donate their collection to their charity of choice (including the International Mission Board for tsunami relief, or the Florida Baptist Convention for disaster relief) with a goal of $200,000 earmarked for the Jacksonville community. — A Gospel Celebration concert at Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. It will feature award-winning artist Patti LaBelle, along with top gospel artists Donnie McClurkin, Karen Clark Sheard, Byron Cage and Kierra Kiki Sheard. Labelle will perform gospel favorites and her own inspirational tunes, according to Superbowl.com.
