SANFORD (FBW)-Wayne Joiner, teacher of the Senior Mens Bible Class at Central Baptist Church, Sanford, was honored recently by his church for 50 years of perfect Sunday School attendance. He has not missed a Sunday School lesson in more than 2,600 consecutive weeks. The retired secondary school history teacher received degrees from Mercer University, Atlanta, in 1977 and 1969. He has taught Sunday School and played piano in several central Florida churches and in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Jacksonville and Macon, Ga. Joiner is author of Our Heritage, 1891-1981, a history of First Baptist Church, Longwood. Even in times of ill health and recovery from surgery, members of his Sunday School class studied the weekly lesson with him. When traveling in the U.S., Canada and western Europe, Joiner and his wife, Nancy, found a Baptist church or gathered fellow travelers to study from the Baptist quarterly. Nancy Joiner told Florida Baptist Witness, Even on our honeymoon in Charleston, S.C., we found a Sunday School class. |
