PBAU names School of Pharmacy for Gregory family benefactors

WEST PALM BEACH (PBAU)- Palm Beach Atlantic University trustees voted April 23 to name the School of Pharmacy for the patriarch of the Gregory family, benefactors of the university’s pharmacy program. The Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy joins the Marshall E. Rinker, Sr. School of Business and the Catherine T. MacArthur School of Continuing Education as Palm Beach Atlantic’s named schools.

Lloyd L. Gregory was an accountant who began his professional career with Price Waterhouse in New York before joining the General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C. Gregory stood firmly behind the importance of a college education and the life-long benefits enjoyed as a result of achieving high academic goals, said his son, Joseph R. Gregory, a Palm Beach Atlantic trustee. The elder Gregory was especially fascinated with the field of community pharmacy, and encouraged two of his six children to attend pharmacy school.

Joseph R. Gregory and his brothers built General Injectibles and Vaccines into the largest drug distribution business in the country. They founded and built King Pharmaceuticals, a fully integrated pharmaceutical company that manufactures, markets and sells branded prescription pharmaceutical products. King has the distinction of being the fastest company in the history of Wall Street to go from an IPO (May 1998) to the S&P 500 (Sept. 2000).

The Gregory family has supported Palm Beach Atlantic’s School of Pharmacy since its inception. Last fall, the family announced a $5 million contribution for a building to house the pharmacy school. The dedication of Gregory Hall, a new, four-story building to house the Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy is planned for Friday, September 24.

The building, located at the corner of Jefferson Street and South Dixie Highway, is the fourth new structure to be built on the university’s West Palm Beach campus since 2000.

Palm Beach Atlantic’s School of Pharmacy, which opened in August 2001, has attained candidate status with the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education . The first class will graduate in May 2005.
