USAF ACADEMY

Cadet info sought

The Baptist Student Union at the United States Air Force Academy would like to contact the men and women reporting to the Academy June 30 and July 1. For those arriving June 30, we will meet them at the airport, provide free lodging, meals, transportation, and take them to the Academy at the appointed time on July 1. For those arriving July 1, the Air Force Academy buses will meet them, but we would like to know of their coming so we can make contact once they have arrived. This is an opportunity to meet smiling faces and make new Christian friends before beginning Basic Cadet Training. If pastors, parents, relatives, friends or new cadets will contact us with name, address, telephone and e-mail address, we will contact them to secure flight arrival times and provide further information.

The Air Force Academy Baptist Student Union is a widely recognized organization and is here for the purpose of contributing to cadets’ spiritual growth. Through the support of the North American Mission Board, Colorado Baptist General Convention, Pikes Peak Baptist Association and local churches, the BSU provides a most active and effective ministry.  We seek to minister to cadets through Bible study, discipleship and evangelism training, local church involvement, worship, fellowship, along with mission and ministry endeavors.

Please contact: Tom Clemmons, 3935 Zurich Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80920; 719-659-1525; e-mail: Clemmonsfam@adelphia.net; or Dwain Gregory, 550 West Woodmen Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80919; 719-599-9094; e-mail: leedgreg@aol.com.

COOPERATIVE BAPTIST FELLOWSHIP

‘Politically correct’ group destructive

I applaud the column, “Immanuel doesn’t live here anymore,” in the April 23  issue of the Witness. I can testify to the destructive nature of the ‘politcally correct’ nature of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. The same church, Second Baptist Church of Liberty, Mo., that fostered the spiritual growth of such missionary giants as Oz and Mary Quick, has now cut and slashed the uncomfortable sections of the Bible. … I love this church where I grew up and which preached the evangelism that led to my own acceptance of Jesus as my Savior.

Now I mourn what has happened to it.

It was lured to believe that ‘the belief of the priesthood of the believer’ was best exhibited in this fashion. It was lured to leave its first love.

All our churches must maintain a vigilance when allowing anyone to teach in their fellowship.

Too often, well-meaning but misled Christians who enthusiastically embrace a new program that is being promoted, find themselves caught in the trap laid by the deceiver.

We must always make certain that if it doesn’t agree with the Bible, it doesn’t get taught. This admonition is not popular, but Jesus told us that following Him would not be popular.

The Bible is our guide, our manual for living God’s Way. The latest teaching that persuades us that we can do a better job by doing it their way, should have the light of God’s Truth expose the darkness of this lie.

UNBORN VICTIM OF VIOLENCE ACT

Misquoting Scripture

There are two errors in the letter “Unborn Victims of Violence Act” in the April 22 Witness.

The writer says, “when we don’t speak out against evil (or false teaching), we will answer for it later in the presence of God.”

This ignores the fact that all sins were paid for at the cross. Sins will not be discussed at the Judgement Seat of Christ after the Rapture, at the Last Judgement after the Millennium. Only good deeds [will be discussed] both times.

Exodus 21:22-25 isn’t a mandate to support the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. These verses describe a child that is born alive. Verse 23 says if any injury occurred after birth, then the Old Testament “Law of Retaliation” was applied.

I am opposed to abortion. I think it violates God’s will.

But, I also oppose misquoting Scripture to make a point.
