Parental notification bill passes full House, awaits Senate approval

TALLAHASSEE (FBW)—State legislators gave a nod Mar. 16 to parental notification when the Florida House of Representatives voted 93-25 in favor of a parental notification bill that will require parents to be notified before a teenager can obtain an abortion.

If approved by the Senate, the amendment will appear on the November ballot for voters to decide.

Though it is reported that members of both the House and the Senate agree there needs to be a bill on parental notification, they have yet to work out an agreement on whether the bill should contain rape and incest exceptions, creating judicial by-pass. As of Mar. 22, the bill was awaiting placement on the Senate calendar.
