Florida Baptist Convention Web site links to Kingdom Family resources

Jacksonville (FBC)-Statistics sadly reveal what is happening to the American family today.

Each day, more than 3,571 marriages end in divorce. More than 50 percent of the children enrolled in public schools live in single-parent homes. Of the nation's children who live apart from their biological fathers, 50 percent have never set foot in their fathers' homes.

At a time when the family is disintegrating, Southern Baptists want to bring hope and healing.

To help churches minister to the family, the Southern Baptist Convention has adopted a program to grow and strengthen "Kingdom Families."

According to the planned strategy seven pillars must be reinforced for the Kingdom Family: God's authority; respect for human life; moral purity; involvement, use of time; stewardship, evangelism and missions.

To support the SBC-wide emphasis, the Florida Baptist Convention's Discipleship and Family Department has been utilizing the Convention's Web site and related conferences to help church leaders understand and implement Kingdom Families principles.

On the convention website, www.flbaptist.org, are direct links to Kingdom Families Web sites and monthly updates. Links also are available to the sermon series produced by Ted Traylor, pastor of Olive Baptist Church, Pensacola, on the seven pillars of the Kingdom Families.

Lifeway Christian Resources and the Florida Baptist Convention are teaming to present a "Kingdom Family Conference" with training for church leaders March 30 in the Treasure Coast Baptist Association.

Two marriage retreats were also held as follows: First Baptist Church, Brandon, Feb. 6-7, 2004, with Gary Chapman; and Hiland Baptist Church, Panama City, Feb. 27-28, 2004, led by Mr. & Mrs. Charles Queener of Intimate Life Ministries.

Also this year, the department will provide family ministry tracks at the Institute of Christian Discipleship, Aug. 27-28 at Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center and Sept. 10-11 at Blue Springs Baptist Conference Center.

The department is also making available to churches a CD on the Kingdom Family produced by LifeWay Christian Resources, free while supplies last.
